Baldur's Gate 3 Cheats on PC: Console, Dice, Trainer
Baldur's Gate 3 has no built-in console and no cheat codes, and Patch 8 of April 2025 was the last major update, so that will not change. On PC the console comes from the Script Extender, a community framework that half the mod scene stands on. Money and items are one line there. The dice are not, and the dice are the part people mean.
Takeaways Three ways to cheat in Baldur's Gate 3 on PC
- Free, in the game Custom mode Enemy health, proficiency bonus, camp cost, trade prices, all as sliders. It changes the odds. It never changes a roll.
- Free, Lua console Script Extender Items by UUID, gold, levels, from a second console window. One version per patch, and Patch 8 is the last one.
- 33 cheats, 17 free Trainer The d20 fixed at 20, 30 or 40, six ability scores by value, approval, game speed. Eleven free switches just pick who you are editing.
The console is not in the box, and the box is closed
Larian shipped Patch 8 on 15 April 2025 with twelve subclasses, photo mode and cross-play, and called it the last major update. Baldur’s Gate 3 never had a developer console for players, and after Patch 8 it never will. What PC has instead is the Baldur’s Gate 3 Script Extender, a framework that loads with the game and runs Lua against it. Its v32 release of 21 June 2026 supports Patch 8, and because the game is done, that is the last patch the extender has to chase.
The install is one file, DWrite.dll, in the game’s bin folder. The console is a setting: CreateConsole set to true in ScriptExtenderSettings.json in the same folder opens a second window next to the game, and pressing Enter in it switches to Lua input. From there, gold and items are one call each, an item by its UUID and the host character as the target. Level and experience are a couple of lines more.
There is a second thing the extender does that matters here. Its settings re-enable achievements for modded games by default. In most games the free route costs you the trophies. In this one it does not.
What no console reaches: the die
The Script Extender edits state. A dice roll is not state, it is an event, and a d20 that has to land on 20 for the conversation you prepared is the moment Baldur’s Gate 3 is built around. Custom mode, added with Patch 5 and laid out on the difficulty page of the community wiki, moves everything around the die: the proficiency bonus from minus one to plus four, enemy health, how often enemies crit, trade prices, camp supply cost. It also lets you hide the roll. It does not let you set it.
Honour mode is the opposite design. One save file for the whole campaign, overwritten on every quit and autosave, with thirty boss fights rebuilt around legendary actions. A party wipe ends the mode. There is no console trick for that, because the mode exists to be the run where you did not use one.
The ability score page is the other ceiling: a soft cap of 20, a hard cap of 24 through the Mirror of Loss and similar permanent gifts, and 30 as the theoretical top with stacking items. Three ability improvements at levels 4, 8 and 12 are all the points a character gets, and a wrong 15 in Constitution at level one is a wrong 15 at level twelve.
What the trainer does with the die
The Baldur’s Gate 3 trainer lists 33 cheats, 17 of them free. The free list looks odd until you read it: eleven of the seventeen are selection switches, one per companion from Astarion to Jaheira plus the player, and they exist because the six ability cheats set a value on whoever is selected. Pick Gale, set Intelligence, pick Shadowheart, set Wisdom. Strength is free, the other five are premium.
The dice group is four switches. Always 20 dice roll, always 30, always 40, and always critical fail. A d20 does not go to 40. The trainer writes the result above the die, which is how a dialogue check with a DC of 30 stops being a reload. The critical fail is for the player who wants to see the branch where everything goes wrong, on purpose, once.
Around that: godmode, unlimited movement and attacks in a turn, unlimited weight, set gold and items, bonus combat XP, two approval bonuses and a free switch that blocks negative approval altogether. Three game-speed cheats, two, three and four times, are free, and in a game where a long rest is a loading screen and a walk across Act 3 is a minute, they are the ones people leave on.
Which one you want
Custom mode if the fights are too hard and the dice are fine. It is in the game, it is free, and Honour mode is waiting when you want the opposite.
The Script Extender if you want a specific item by UUID, a level, gold, or you already run mods that need it. It is free, well kept, and the last version it needs already exists.
The trainer if the roll is the problem. A guaranteed 20 in a conversation eighty hours in, an ability score fixed without a restart, a companion who stops disapproving. It changes values in memory on your own PC and leaves the game folder alone.
Single-player only, and Honour mode is off the table for all three, by its own rules.

Not out of the box. The Baldur's Gate 3 Script Extender adds a Lua console in a second window, switched on with CreateConsole in ScriptExtenderSettings.json. Everything called a BG3 console command runs through it.
Can you force a natural 20 in Baldur's Gate 3?
Not in the game and not cleanly from the console. Custom mode adjusts bonuses, not the die. A trainer has switches for a guaranteed 20, 30 or 40, and one for an automatic critical fail.
Does cheating disable achievements in Baldur's Gate 3?
The Script Extender re-enables achievements for modded games by default. Honour mode is the exception: a single save that overwrites itself, and the Foehammer achievement at the end is the point of it.
What is the ability score cap in Baldur's Gate 3?
20 from normal sources, 24 with the Mirror of Loss and similar permanent bonuses, and a theoretical 30 with stacking items. A trainer sets each of the six by value, which is how people find out the sheet still stops at 30.
