Bannerlord: The Cheat That Unlocks All Smithing Parts

Smithing parts in Bannerlord unlock by chance, one at a time, per character, and the part you want is never the one that drops. There is a built-in command that unlocks all of them at once. It takes about twenty seconds and switches off achievements for that campaign.

Takeaways Unlock every smithing part in Bannerlord, four steps

  1. 1 Open the console Alt and the key left of 1, the backtick. A text field appears at the bottom of the screen.
  2. 2 Switch cheat mode on Type config.cheat_mode 1 and press Enter. Editing engine_config.txt does the same thing permanently.
  3. 3 Unlock the parts Type campaign.unlock_all_crafting_pieces and press Enter. Every part is now in the smithy for your main character.
  4. 4 Know what you paid Cheat mode disables achievements for that save. The parts stay unlocked if you switch cheat mode back off.

The unlock is one line, and it lives in the game itself

Bannerlord ships with a developer console. It is switched off by default and hidden behind cheat mode, but nothing about it is a mod. Press Alt and the backtick, the key left of 1, and a command line opens at the bottom of the campaign screen.

Type config.cheat_mode 1 first. Without it the campaign commands answer with a line saying cheats are disabled. Then type:

campaign.unlock_all_crafting_pieces

Every blade, guard, grip, handle and pommel in the game unlocks for your main character. Not tier by tier, not by weapon class, all of it. The command and its neighbours are documented on the console page of the Bannerlord modding documentation, which is also where you find the rest of the campaign set.

That rest is worth a look while the console is open:

CommandWhat it does
campaign.add_gold_to_hero 100000Gold to your main character
campaign.add_renown_to_clan 500Renown, which sets clan tier and party size
campaign.add_influence 500Influence for kingdom decisions
campaign.add_attribute_points_to_hero 5Attribute points to spend
campaign.give_all_crafting_materials_to_main_partyEvery smithing material, in bulk
campaign.add_troops vlandian_sharpshooter | 50Troops by their internal name
campaign.set_campaign_speed_multiplier 15Faster campaign clock, works since 1.1.0

The materials command is the natural partner of the unlock. Parts are one half of smithing, charcoal and iron the other, and the two together mean you can forge a top-tier two-hander in the first week of a campaign.

Why the parts are locked at all

Smithing parts unlock through use. Every time you smelt a weapon or forge one, the game rolls a chance to unlock a part of the same category and tier, and the chance is not generous. On top of that the unlock is per character: what your main hero learns, a companion at the same forge does not.

The result is the loop everyone knows. Buy weapons, smelt them, watch the unlock message, buy more. A Steam guide from the early days of the game recommends buying stacks of heavy executioner axes with cheat mode on and smelting them by the dozen, and that method still works, because it is just the normal system fed faster. It is also the only route that leaves achievements intact.

What the command costs, and what it does not

Cheat mode disables Steam achievements for the campaign it is switched on in. That is the whole bill. The parts stay unlocked if you type config.cheat_mode 0 afterwards, the save stays loadable, and nothing else about the campaign changes.

What the command does not touch is the smithing skill. Higher-tier parts still require a smithing level to use, forging still costs stamina that refills in a town, and the forged weapon still has to be balanced by hand in the crafting screen. Unlocking every part hands you the catalogue. It does not read the catalogue for you.

The same limit applies to the whole console: each command is a lump. Gold once, renown once, influence once. Nothing holds a value, nothing acts every day, and a party of two hundred still eats.

Where the trainer picks up

The Bannerlord trainer has 23 cheats, five of them free, and eight of the 23 move gold, renown or influence. That ratio says what the game is about: standing, in three currencies that all grow slowly.

For the forge specifically there is one switch, Easy Forging Difficulty, which lowers the bar in the crafting screen the console leaves untouched. Around it sit the things a smithing run actually stalls on: no food consumption and infinite morale for the party that has to sit in a town for a week, zero equipment weight, and godmode for the tournaments that pay for the iron.

The free tier is small and telling. One thousand gold, zero gold, zero renown, add focus points, zero focus points. Focus points decide whether smithing ever reaches the level the high-tier parts require, so the free half of the trainer is a decent companion to the free half of the console.

Three routes to the same forge

Use the console if all you want is the parts. It is built in, it is one line, and the achievement cost is the same one cheat mode charges for anything.

Use the smelting loop if achievements matter to you. It is slower by hours, and cheat mode for the weapon supply defeats the point, so this route means buying weapons with real gold.

Use the trainer if the forge is one problem among several: the party, the money, the tournaments. It changes values in memory, needs no console open, and holds them while you play. Single-player only, as always.

What is the Bannerlord cheat to unlock all smithing parts?

Open the console with Alt and backtick, type config.cheat_mode 1, then campaign.unlock_all_crafting_pieces. All parts unlock for your main character at once.

Does unlocking smithing parts with the console disable achievements?

Cheat mode does. The unlock command only runs with cheat mode on, so a campaign that has used it will not earn Steam achievements. The parts themselves stay unlocked afterwards.

Do the unlocked parts work for my companions too?

Smithing parts unlock per character in Bannerlord, and the command targets the main hero. A companion who does your smithing has their own list.

Can I unlock all smithing parts without cheats?

Yes, by smelting and forging. Each action has a chance to unlock a part of the same type and tier, so smelting stacks of expensive weapons is the fast legal route. It is fast in hours, not minutes.
