Red Dead Redemption 2 Cheats on PC: All 37 Codes and the Catch

Red Dead Redemption 2 is one of the few games on this site with real cheat codes. There are 37 of them, they are phrases, and you type them into the Settings menu. The catch is in the same menu: the moment one is switched on, the game stops saving and stops counting achievements. That is why the PC version has a second market for cheats, and it is why this page has two halves.

The codes, all of them

Rockstar hid the phrases in the world: on a chalkboard at Fort Riggs, on the ice at Cairn Lake, on the ceiling of a trading post. You do not have to find them, because the Red Dead wiki lists every one, and the game accepts a phrase whether or not you saw it in a drawer. Eight of the 37 have a second lock: the game wants a particular newspaper in the satchel before it takes the code.

Three papers cover the lot: the Blackwater Ledger in Blackwater and Strawberry, the New Hanover Gazette in Annesburg and Valentine, the Saint Denis Times in Saint Denis and Rhodes. The edition numbers are tied to story missions, so the war horse code is out of reach until after “The Wheel” and the infinite ammo code waits for “Eastward Bound”.

How you enter them on PC, and the rule underneath

Pause, go to Settings, and the Cheats entry sits at the bottom of the menu, with a key prompt next to it. A text box opens. Type the phrase, in any case, with the punctuation the phrase has. Then save the game, because a phrase is only stored in the list once a save has been written with it.

Then read the warning the game puts on the screen. While any cheat is active, the game does not save, and achievements do not count. Not for that session, not until you load a save made without cheats. The wiki is blunt about it, and it adds a second warning that matters on PC: if you force a save with a cheat on through the one mission where that is possible, some of the horses the cheats create can permanently delete stable slots in that save.

So the practical use of the 37 codes is a separate playthrough. You save clean, switch on the outfits and the war horse and infinite Dead Eye, ride around Saint Denis as a clown, and load the clean save when you want to continue the story. That is how Rockstar meant it, and for a lot of players it is enough.

The other half: keeping the save

The PC version, out since 5 November 2019, is where the other route exists. The Red Dead Redemption 2 trainer lists 12 cheats, two of them free, and the free two are the ones people type most: infinite ammo and infinite stamina for Arthur. Neither needs a newspaper, and neither switches saving off.

The ten premium cheats overlap the code list on purpose and go past it in two places. Godmode, no reload, infinite Dead Eye, infinite stamina for the horse, and the three cores held at maximum are all things a code does too, minus the save lock. No bounty is the code YOU WANT EVERYONE TO GO AWAY as a standing switch instead of a one-off. And the two money cheats, plus 500 or plus 1,000 on every pickup, are the code GREED IS NOW A VIRTUE turned into something that pays out as you play, which the code cannot, because you would have to open the menu each time.

Twelve is a short list for this site. It is short because the game already ships with 37, and the trainer only has to fix the one thing wrong with them.

Codes or trainer

The codes for the second playthrough, the one where you do not care about the save. They are free, they are in the game, and the clown wagon is worth seeing once.

The trainer for the playthrough you are keeping. Same effects, no menu, no newspaper, and the save file keeps writing. It changes values in memory on your own PC, in story mode.

Red Dead Online is not part of either. Keep it to the story, and keep the story to yourself.
